In praise of New City Gas

Earlier this month I was finally able to visit the venue that has become a major stop for many major acts in EDM in Montreal, New City Gas. The new venue is set in an old industrial venue that might seem like you're entering a rave set in the 1990s but in reality the New City Gas is a well organized, safe venue that is very modern and chic.

Resolution event in Montreal is cancelled this year

Quoted from the press release:

"The multiplicity of shows of the same type that will be available over the months ahead along with the non-availability of headliners with sufficient drawing power are the principal reasons behind this exceptional decision."

The release goes on to say that the combination of an earlier Bal en Blanc date, the Swedish House Mafia date at the Bell Centre, and events at the New City Gas, adding Resolution to the calendar "would unquestionably have produced a situation of oversupply."

For the past 10 minutes I've been pondering what kind of acts could fill up a place like the Bell Centre at this time of year considering all of the talent that have already visited Montreal and will be visiting over the next few months. With the exception of a few names like Afrojack, Aoki, Digweed, Carl Cox, Hardwell, Laidback Luke, Dash Berlin, the choices are pretty limited.

The decision to cancel Resolution rather than organizing a less than stellar night is a wise move but I will miss partying at the Bell Centre which I believe is a fantastic venue for a massive EDM event.
