The production company behind the Golden Globes are planning a new DJ Awards show

Found this New York Post article via @DJLips:

"Dick Clark Productions, the producer of the Golden Globes, is looking to cash in on rising ratings and advertiser demand for TiVo-proof TV events with a first-of-its-kind awards show to celebrate vinyl-spinning DJs, The Post has learned"

If the company behind the Golden Globes, American Music Awards, and the Academy of Country Music Awards wants to get into the EDM game, I say bring it on.

Two reviews of UMF 15 that are worth reading

Found the following two reviews of the Ultra Music Festival to be worth a look:

Beatmill's 'A Different View of Ultra Music 15' gives you a review of the stuff that we as UMF TV watchers at home didn't get a chance to check out as it covered the action from such stages as Toolroom Knights, Surface, Bayfront, and of course the Mega Structure.

Freshnewtracks laid out their best and worst moments from this year's Ultra Music Festival weekend 2. I give them extra brownie points for picking the Boys Noize set as their favourite from weekend 2. When I compare the Boys Noize set I heard at UMF versus the one I heard live at New City Gas, the Miami set won hands down. Alex Ridha, who spent months honing his live show during the Out of the Black album tour, showed off the results of his hard work by creating a special show for fans in Miami.

Daft Punk to unveil Random Access Memories in Wee Waa, Australia

Link.

Daft Punk is set to unveil their highly anticipated album 5 days ahead of official release in Wee Waa, Australia (population: 2,100). Why? According to the article from Pitchfork, the boys from France were "enticed" by the CSIRO Australia Telescope and satellite dishes located in the area.

To describe this move as highly unusual doesn't even do it justice as Daft Punk is emphasizing the random in Random Access Memories.

Electric Zoo's 2013 headliners are revealed

With two main stages at this year's Electric Zoo held on Randall's Island Park in New York City, Made Events have just revealed their main headliners:

My personal pick for the best main stage out of the 3 days would have to go to Main Stage East on Sunday that will feature Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke, Diplo, Tommy Trash, and Rusko. The combination of wild performers like Aoki, Diplo, and Rusko will go well with the DJ skills of Laidback Luke and the banging electro sets that Tommy Trash usually delivers. It's an early prediction but if I were going to Electric Zoo this year that's the stage I'd be looking forward to most.

3 day General Admission passes are now on sale for $329, while a 3-day VIP pass are $649. Click here for ticket information.

Pacha Ibiza's new direction

The Urgell's, the family behind the Pacha empire spanning from Ibiza to South America, have announced a new direction for their iconic Ibiza club via the New York Times. According to José Urgell, the ballooning DJ fees were the main issue:

“The D.J.’s wanted more money to play less,” said José Urgell, known as Piti, who is Mr. Urgell’s 65-year-old brother. “It was an abuse. We had to come up with a new plan because the old one was going to explode.” ...The budgets behind the dance business are ballooning, with superstar D.J.’s now commanding hundreds of thousands of dollars a night in the megaclubs of Ibiza and Las Vegas, where they once spun anonymously in the dark.”

While names such as Tiesto, Eric Morillo, Luciano, and Pete Tong will no longer be with Pacha this season, David Guetta still retains his night while Guy Gerber was signed for a weekly residency that will "feature indie bands, magicians, fortunetelling machines, maybe a puppeteer." Piti Urgell will also be spinning classic rock 'n' roll in a weekly event they call 'Flower Power'.

With the launch of two new mega clubs in Las Vegas, Hakkasan and Light, it will be interesting to watch how Pacha's new direction will fare versus the big name DJ events in Las Vegas this summer.
