The Bal en Blanc set time schedule is finally out

If you're planning to go to the 20th edition of the Bal en Blanc all night white party this Sunday in Montreal, then this schedule must be eagerly awaited:

Extended sets have been given to Deep Dish (3 hours), New World Punx (3 hours), and the legendary Carl Cox has a full 4 hours to do as he wishes on the Carl Cox & Friends stage from 3:00 am until 7:00 am. If you're going this Sunday, I highly suggest that you get a good night's rest the night before and drink lots of coffee, because it's going to be a long night!

Tickets are still available to Bal en Blanc, click here for more information.

The scheduled Dada Life show at the Direct Energy Centre has been moved to Sound Academy

In response to the bad news that the Toronto City Council has voted to ban electronic dance music events from the Exhibition Place, Ink Entertainment, the organizers behind the Dada Life Compound party, has decided to move the party over to Sound Academy. Here's the official statement by Ink Entertainment posted on Facebook

"Due to recent decisions made by the Toronto City Council, we have effectively been forced to make the decision that the Dada Land Compound event will not go ahead as planned at the Direct Energy Centre. However, Dada Life still plan to perform in Toronto on Friday April 25th.

Finding a suitable replacement venue for the Dada Land Compound show at such short notice was unfortunately impossible; and with so many tickets sold there were limited options. But Dada Life were clear they had to perform in Toronto so a new event will now take place at Sound Academy with Dada Life performing alongside the scheduled support acts: Adventure Club, Tritonal & Henry Fong, but please note the event will not contain the same elements of the Dada Land Compound.

All tickets for the Direct Energy Centre show will be honored at the new event at Sound Academy on April 25th and will be subject to the following discounts etc.

Tickets that were originally purchased for more than $99.50 will now have the face value of $99.50. The difference will be automatically refunded. In addition ALL TICKET HOLDERS including ones at the new $99.50 price will be refunded 15% of the face value for the original ticket, again these refunds will happen automatically.

Anyone not wishing to attend the new event at Sound Academy can obtain a full refund from point of purchase. The option for a full refund is only available until 1pm EST Monday April 21st.

We are working to reschedule a Dada Land Compound show for Ontario in the near future."

Tickets are still available for this show on April 25th by clicking here

Mat Zo releases a retro house/funk track for free

Mat Zo went on Twitter today to declare that he will be releasing music for free from now on. He started off the giveaway by uploading this throwback house/funky tune named "Oldskool Trip", check it out:

To get this as a free download, click here.

Could this new free giveaway attitude by Mat Zo be the result of the low royalties that he received in the first quarter for his debut album "Damage Control"? You be the judge:

Combine this news with the recent revelations by Nick Thayer on his music and travelling income, we have to concede that the real money being made within the EDM world is concentrated heavily at the top.

Toronto Star: City bans electronic dance music events from Exhibition Place

As reported by Toronto Star

"City-owned buildings at Exhibition Place will no longer host popular electronic dance music parties after its board voted 4-3 Friday to ban them...."

"...Those in favour argued it would make teens and tweens safer, saying drug and alcohol abuse among minors is rampant at electronic dance music (EDM) events."

"..The decision will likely cost Exhibition Place around $1 million in annual revenue, Perks said..."

This is terrible news for electronic dance music in Toronto.

Update: Thump wrote about the issue (Link), and so did DJ Mag Canada (Link)

Update 2: Toronto Sun wrote about it too (Link).

Update 3: There's a new petition out there titled "Keep EDM Events at Exhibition Place" (Link). The author is listed as "EDM Toronto", and I just wanted to state for the record that I didn't write it. (They have since changed the author's name to "EDM T.DOT")
