One more reason to get excited for EDM in Las Vegas: Hardwell's new show at Hakkasan

Las Vegas is about to get a lot more interesting when Hakkasan, the new nightclub and restaurant, opens up next month at the MGM Grand. Hakkasan will feature some of the biggest names in EDM such as Tiesto, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke, and more when the doors official open in April.

What's interesting about Hakkasan is that they are trying to stand apart from the rest of the competition by going beyond the standard club experience by creating shows custom made for each DJ. A perfect illustration of the customized DJ show experience is Hardwell's upcoming 'Go Hardwell Or Go Home' show:

"At his “Go Hardwell Or Go Home” event series at Hakkasan Las Vegas, Hardwell’s infectious music will transport guests into a futuristic space travel experience that will make them feel as if they are celebrating in another galaxy. Complete with spacemen, and customized visuals that will envelop guests in stars, “Go Hardwell Or Go Home” epitomizes Hardwell’s music and represents the final frontier of electronic music parties."

Hardwell's first 'Go Hardwell Or Go Home' show will debut at Hakkasan on April 19th.

Hardwell fans will now have that many more reasons to visit Las Vegas this summer.

The Veld Music Festival surprises fans with 4 noteworthy DJs added to the lineup

Today the Veld Music Festival surprises fans by announcing 4 DJs to the lineup that offers up a lot of diverse styles to the Toronto festival. Whereas last year there was a huge focus on big room DJs, this year they make a statement by booking the legendary New York DJ Danny Tenaglia and Toronto DJ of underground fame, Carlo Lio. There is also something for bass fans as 12th Planet and Pretty Lights were also added to the lineup.

The important takeaway from this announcement is that the Veld Music Festival is branching out to more genres of EDM this year and that you can expect more underground and bass/dubstep DJs in future lineup releases. EDM Canada fully supports festivals booking on a more diverse lineup that allows fans to stage hop and experience new DJs that they may never have thought of if these DJs came to Toronto by themselves. The Veld Music Festival will continue to add to their DJ lineup everyday until April 3rd.

Update: the organizers have since added Dirty South, Adventure Club, Thomas Gold, GTA,  Sub Focus, Modestep, John Digweed, and Victor Calderone to the lineup:

DJ Mag releases top 100 clubs results *Updated

Link.

Canadian results:

  • #22 - Guvernment (Toronto)
  • #36 - Footwork (Toronto)
  • #62 - Beta Nightclub (Waterloo) (Thank you @DJMalek)
  • #69  - Circus Afterhours (Montreal)
  • #86 - Stereo (Montreal)

Last year it was Circus Afterhours that carried the flag as DJ Mag's top Canadian club at #19 while the Guvernment came in at #27. Beta was ranked at #40 while Footwork and Stereo were unranked in 2012. Klub OMFG from Alberta was ranked #49 while Cobra London came in at #44 in 2012, but both clubs did not make the 2013 cut.

From what I noticed from this year vs. last year was that Circus Afterhours, the Montreal afterhours club, was engaged in an active campaign in 2012 to encourage fans to vote and as a result they were awarded the 19th spot in the 2012 rankings. This year, I have noticed virtually no campaigning of any kind from either Circus or Stereo, while Guvernment in Toronto was by far the most active campaigner in 2013, highlighted by this promotional video.

The takeaway lesson is that if you want to rank high in the DJ Mag rankings in the future, you must invest a lot of time and effort and in return your fans will take the time to vote for you.
