Props to Dave Nada from Nadastrom for creating a new genre of EDM.
This was posted by Skrillex earlier today on Facebook:
"It is with huge disappointment that we have to announce the Full Flex Express will not be happening in 2013. During the past 4 months we lost the train we had booked, found a new one, and then realized the cost associated with using it would put us at a huge, huge loss. We explored every option to make the Full Flex Express happen but ultimately we could not get around these setbacks. Also, some of the acts we had in mind were unavailable and we only wanted to deliver the best of the best, which is what we think this festival should deliver. The train is near and dear to my heart, and we have every intention of bringing it back in a massive way in 2014 (and for many years after), so please understand that we do this for you and this is just an unfortunate convergence of circumstances. Refunds will be issued at point of purchase and also to everyone who bought a ticket online."
This is devastating news to all of those that have been anticipating this cross Canadian tour since it was first announced last year. The 2nd edition of the Full Flex Express was highly anticipated among Canadian fans as last year's tour was so memorable.
I hope this cancellation doesn't ultimately prevent Skrillex from coming to Canada this summer as there are still plenty of high quality festivals that could still book him. If Skrillex is re-booked at a few Canadian events then not all is lost, but if this news means that Skrillex will not be coming to Canada at all this summer then today's announcement will be a tough pill to swallow for Skrillex/OWSLA fans.
From Beatport's interview with Sasha:
"...there is a fantastic underground over there [America] at the moment. We did a small clubs tour out there last year and had an amazing time. Lots of cool venues and closing sets at festivals, so the underground is healthy as well as the tip of the iceberg, thus I can’t complain about it. The numbers of kids going out now is just insane. Every city seems to have two or three touring DJs at any night and the competition is mad. There is a definite eagerness and that is great"
Sasha speaking positively about the American scene is cause for celebration.
