Getting to know more about Bassnectar

From SFWeekly:

"He had a number of years there where he was like the Burning Man guy," Darling says. "He was playing dubstep before anybody even knew what dubstep was. They didn't even know what to call it. They just called it Bassnectar."

Here's Bassnectar's funny theory on why dubstep (not house and techno) took off in North America:

"Maybe kids didn't want to dance as fast," he says. "Maybe we're all fat and out of shape in this country. Dubstep is a perfect electronic music for Americans because we eat too much."

The article is a long read but it's a highly recommended one as you get to know more about Bassnectar and his long road to the top.

Fresh Music: Ganja White Night - 'Bubblegum'

Found this cool track while listening to the Skream and Benga show on BBC Radio 1:

Ganja White Night is a live dubstep duo hailing from Belgium. They have an interesting DJ setup for their live performances which is shown here:

According to their website they describe their setup like this:

"For their live performance the group decided to plan live arrangements allowing them to be creative and efficient combining machines, laptops, midi master keybords, all kinds of regulators, samplers, sequencers, processing effects and recently IPads."

Ganja White Night have yet to tour North America but if they keep on producing tracks like 'bubblegum' that might all change in the future.

Getting to know Diplo - the most interesting DJ on the planet

The Guardian wrote a great profile on Diplo that you can read here. The way he weaves between different kinds of music from all over the world while collaborating with the likes of Beyonce and No Doubt is beyond impressive. Diplo's never-ending search for what's fresh across the globe is why the Mad Decent site is the only label website that I visit on the regular.

Random notes from the article:

According to Diplo the next new thing is in Indonesia:

"Indonesia, I'd say. Kids there are creating crazy shit ... there's this Dutch house scene, but then they have this real ghetto attitude towards it."

The 3Bal sound from Mexico. Ever heard of it? This was the first time I have ever read about 3bal which is defined as "a mix of pretty much everything a dance-minded teenager from Mexico would be exposed to on the internet: Kuduro, cumbia, two-step, house, techno, and generally all things bass, are present in this peculiar sound." 'Morning Cumbia' (Toy Selectah Raverton Remix MASTER) DJ Javier Estrada:

Jillionaire (From Major Lazer) on Phat Deuce: (a producer completely unknown to me until I read this article)

"There's this Afghani kid in Stockholm called Phat Deuce who's started sending us his music and he's amazing"

I went through his Soundcloud catalogue of tracks and really enjoyed 'Yung Coconut - How U Want It'
