Carl Cox speaks out

Carl Cox gave a great interview to DMC World Magazine:

"...the majority of the biggest DJs in the world have the same playlist playing the same records every time. They are scared of stepping out of their '2 hour comfort zone set'. It is far too poptastic for me, you get what you see on the tin with these guys. It's like having an MTV jukebox behind the decks. On the other side of the coin you have us lot, they probably see us as old skool DJs. But I am where I am, still at the highest level. If I want to go and play Drum & Bass at SW4, House music at DC10 and Techno at Space, I can... they want to see a DJ make a mistake, they want to see some passion, they want to get their money's worth..."

Dead on. Couldn't agree more.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the result of this album collaboration.

To get a taste of what Snoop can create with an established EDM artist, I present you Boys Noize ft. Snoop Dogg - Got It:

3 Trance tracks that you should listen to (Paul Oakenfold, ECO, Protoculture)

Paul Oakenfold - Come Together (Original Mix):

It's so refreshing to see Paul Oakenfold create some hard hitting Trance again. The vocal sample break at around the 3 minute mark is quite beautiful and gives plenty of opportunities to sing along. After being disappointed by the 'We Are Planet Perfecto' Volume 2 CD compilation mainly because there was almost no Trance music included, this track reminds his fans that he still loves the genre that many still love.

Eco - Desert Song (Original Mix):

Currently sitting at #41 on the Beatport Trance charts.

Protoculture - Perpetual Motion (Original Mix):

Warning: This track has the ability to grab hold of you and not let go. Protoculture created a catchy and uplifting track that should please many.

Bonus Update - Stoneface & Terminal - Green Velvet (Club Mix):

It's great to see some fantastic Trance music being released these days.

Seven Lions: The Dubstep Remixer of Choice for Trance Producers

Seven Lions has become one of the hottest Dubstep producers thanks in part to the recognition given for winning Above & Beyond's remix context of 'You Got To Go' a few months ago. This California native has transformed his musical hobby into a full fledged career which will be further boosted by his upcoming EP release backed by OWSLA.

Seven Lions aka Jeff Montalvo is known for his excellent blend of beautifully crafted Dubstep beats fused with some of the biggest trance tracks released including Velvetine's 'The Great Divide', Tritonal ft. Christina Soto's 'Still With Me', and Paul Van Dyk's 'I don't Deserve You Ft. Plumb'.

Seven Lions sound is successful because he's managed to maintain the beauty and essence of Trance music while creating Dubstep drops that serve to enhance rather than detract from the overall melody. Seven Lions started as a Trance producer before turning to Dubstep so that might explain his ability to create beautiful Dubstep tracks that would appeal to the Trance and Dubstep fans alike.

Seven Lions recently finished a gig in Vancouver at the BLVD 22 for his Canadian debut and sat down with Van City Buzz for an interesting interview. His next Canadian stop will be in Ottawa on Oct 12th at the Ritual Nightclub.

It's hard to predict how high Seven Lions career will go but given the fact that he has a current Beatport #1 Dubstep track, massive Trance producer support, and an upcoming EP via OWSLA, I believe Jeff Montalvo is in for a fast ride.
