"Make some noise!"

No, I won't make some noise if you want me to. No, I won't sit down on the dirty dance floor and stand up on command. And no, I won't lift my hands up in the air because you tell me to.

I go to a club to primarily dance and listen to great music, but not to worship the DJ. I respect the DJ or else I wouldn't have bothered to pay good money to buy a ticket, dress up, get myself out of the house and willingly dance in a hot and usually packed club. But I feel like the DJ crosses the line when he asks you to perform certain things like a Pavlovian dog who is waiting for his or her treat.

The DJ should respect the dance floor just as much as we respect the DJ. If we want to put our hands in the air, jump up and down, or even scream in enjoyment, it should be because of the music and not because someone on a mic asks us to.

/End of rant.

Markus Schulz Interview: Trance is doing just fine in Ibiza

Solid interview of Marks Schulz from the Summer Festival Guide.

SFG: Your almost at the end of your residency at Privilege, how has that gone this summer?

Markus: Fantastic, I am part of the residency for A State of Trance night on Monday nights.  To be honest with you, I think it’s fantastic for both Ibiza and the trance scene.  Nobody really expected us to do what we have been doing, selling out the club week after week, 7000 strong.  The whole island is kind of like looking at us going ‘what’s going on, how are they able to do this’.  It’s really just put the spotlight on trance music again.

Trance is far from dead.

It was also revealed that Markus Schulz will go on a 'Scream' album tour with full production in the first quarter of 2013. Hopefully Markus will include a few Canadian dates.

Nero Re-Releases Album with 2 new tracks + New Tour with 2 Canadian Dates Announced

Ever since I saw Nero back in July in Toronto for the IDentity Festival I've had a real musical love affair with the UK group by re-listening to their 2011 album 'Welcome to Reality' multiple times and watching their brilliant videos online. Since their album release Nero have become active again on the production front by creating a new bootleg of Die Antwoord's track called 'Fok Julie Naaiers' that you can download for free from Soundcloud.

Today they have announced that they will re-release the smash hit 'Welcome to Reality' album with two brand new tracks and Skrillex's remix of 'Promises'. Not bad. For those that haven't had a chance Nero live yet they have announced a new North American mini-tour that includes Canadian dates in Toronto and Montreal:

I'm very tempted to see Nero at one of these two dates because they are so brilliant live. They have a few new tracks under their belt to try out at these events so it might be worth your while to get yourself a ticket. The new reboot of the 'Welcome To Reality' album will be available on October 22nd.

Kandi Kids explained by EDM Snob

Here's an excerpt:

Being a kandi kid is about channeling the kid you used to be. Kandi kids take the psychology of the inner child and make it the outer child. That’s why cartoons, stuffed animals, sweets and bright colors are the norm. The idea is, the world would be a much better place if we kept intact the mindset we had when we were little. Children don’t pick their playground friends based on clothes, skin color or gender. Kids just want to have fun. They value people for who they are (and how high they can swing, of course).

Wearing interesting beads with messages on your wrist is cool, but the whole pacifier in the mouth look for men is something I never got. It's a good read to get yourself educated though.

Official Tomorrowland 2012 After Movie

Here's the official after movie of the 3 day event in Europe:

336,000+ Youtube views and the video was only released yesterday, that's impressive in itself. My favourite part comes around the 15 minute mark.

Tomorrowland probably holds the crown as the premiere EDM festival in the world but the guys from Insomnia are no slouches and I would expect them to up the ante for Vegas in 2013.

FYI - The soundtrack to this after movie was done by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike who will be performing in Vancouver on September 28th.
