John OO Fleming answers - "What is Trance?"

John OO Fleming takes on the big question on his Facebook page.

"What is Trance personally to me? It’s not a genre. It’s not a word. It’s a feeling. When looking for music, I ignore any form of genre tag attached. I look for hypnotic beats and rhythms. I look for well programmed and arranged sounds that help create this hypnotic feeling."

Good read.

Loco Dice wants the biggest Hip Hop names to approach himself or Plastikman for collabs

Loco Dice weighs in on the big names and money trying to get their piece of the EDM pie.

“I want to see more people like Jay-Z or Dr Dre coming to Plastikman or Mathew Jonson or to me,”

It's worth a shot. With Dada Life and Ferry Corsten remixing Justin Bieber and Gareth Emery's Britney remix from last year, it might be a good thing to see what other producers might accomplish with a high level collab effort.

Zedd profiled by the New York Times

With the EDM craze hitting full steam it is only natural that such a venerable paper like the New York Times will take notice and profile the next wave of super hot producers like Zedd.

“The record labels now are all saying, ‘We’ve got to find the next Skrillex,’ ” said Gary Richards, the promoter behind the Hard festival franchise.
Aside from Zedd, who was courted by Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Records (Eminem, Lady Gaga, U2), the contenders include D.J. prodigies like Madeon and Porter Robinson, and the Chicago group Krewella, which just signed with Columbia."

Krewella, really? No disrespect to them but I think a better prospect to be "the next Skrillex" is someone like Dillon Francis at this point.

Zedd will be playing a B2B set with Porter Robinson in Vancouver on October 7th.
Zedd will also appear in Ottawa for the first time on October 23rd.

Diplo Interview on Vibe: "Being a DJ is pretty bullshit"

Diplo had a few harsh words to say about the whole DJ'ing craft in Vibe Magazine last week.

"...I’m lucky I can produce records, too, because DJs don’t do shit. They just fucking play records..."

I doubt this rant will elicit an A-Trak response.

Note: Diplo will be playing some records at the The Hoxton on September 13th.

For me it's no contest as I find the instrumental mix to be so much better. I've been rocking out to it ever since I first saw Deadmau5 showcase the track in his London Nokia promotion back in November (Starts at 0:36):

www.jasonreevephotography.com Deadmau5 combines with Nokia to illuminate London at an eye-catching event that saw the renowned producer and DJ perform in front of London's iconic Millbank Tower to a backdrop of 4D visuals stretching the full length of the 120m-tall building.
