'EDC is the new Woodstock of our Generation'

The statement above was quoted from Kaskade following the highly successful three day EDC Las Vegas festival that took place last weekend.

I found the Hollywood Reporter's view on the festival to be entertaining to read because the author was writing about the EDM genre from the perspective of pop music which was made clear by referencing remixed tracks from Rihanna, Will.i.am, and Kelly Clarkson.

Dumbing down of EDM?

Interesting article from the Wall Street Journal (of all places) on the topic.

Am I supposed to dumb down to the idea that all I'm doing is pressing a button? - Carl Cox

I've been thinking about issue for quite a while now but have not come to any firm opinions (yet). But all I can say for now is that I believe technology has evolved to a point that it allows DJs to have the tools to create something truly special for their live shows (live mashups, visual/audio experience, etc). On the other hand the same technology can be used to fully pre-program a set. Is turntablism the only answer? I'm not fully convinced.
